Schumer, a New York Democrat of Jewish descent, stirred controversy in both nations by criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach to the conflict, suggesting that Israel’s international standing could suffer as Palestinian casualties mount. “He made a good speech,” Biden commented during a meeting, acknowledging many Americans’ significant concerns regarding the situation.
Netanyahu’s party, Likud, responded critically to Schumer, emphasizing the expectation of respect toward Israel’s elected leadership, especially during a conflict.
