Biden Brought Up Son Beau in Interview, Not Hur

President Joe Biden expressed visible frustration last week regarding the wording in special counsel Robert Hur’s report on classified documents, particularly the mention of Biden’s recollection surrounding his son Beau’s death.

In his remarks on Feb. 8 regarding the report, Biden strongly reacted, questioning how Hur dared to bring up such a personal matter. Biden’s sentiment was clear: he deemed the matter of his son’s passing as private and unrelated to the report’s focus.

However, NBC News provided a contrasting narrative, suggesting that it was Biden himself who introduced the topic of Beau Biden during the discussion, rather than Robert Hur initiating it.

Insiders familiar with the lengthy five-hour interview disclosed that Biden brought up his son’s death when discussing his activities at a Virginia rental home from 2016 to 2018. During this period, Biden was collaborating with a ghostwriter on a memoir centered around the loss of Beau to brain cancer in 2015.

Hur’s report highlighted Biden’s mishandling of classified materials, noting that although the president “willfully detained and disclosed classified materials,” his impaired memory would likely be apparent to any jury, making conviction improbable.

First Lady Jill Biden also addressed the issue, referencing Beau in a recent donor email and emphasizing the enduring impact of his loss on the president. She sought to convey the emotional toll such attacks take, not only on Joe Biden as her husband but also as Beau’s mother.

The fallout from Hur’s interview with the president has escalated, with both sides urging the White House to release the complete transcript. The aim is to present the full context devoid of any partisan bias, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
