Bishop Strickland Tapped as CPAC Keynote Speaker

Former Roman Catholic Bishop Joseph Strickland of Texas, who gained national attention after his removal by Pope Francis due to his traditional teachings, is set to be a keynote speaker at the annual CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) gala dinner in Washington, D.C. The event is scheduled for February 23.

Strickland’s prominence has grown since his dismissal by the Pope, and he has garnered significant interest from conservatives and individuals across the nation. Matt Schlapp, the host of CPAC, announced Strickland’s participation and mentioned that he would also celebrate Mass during the conference for Catholic attendees.

Last November, Pope Francis removed Strickland from his role as the Bishop of Tyler, Texas, after the bishop refused to resign voluntarily. The reasons behind Strickland’s removal were not clearly explained by church officials, who stated only that his continuation in office was “not feasible.”

Many observers believe Strickland’s removal stemmed from his public positions that contradicted Pope Francis’ progressive views on topics such as life, marriage, and gender. Strickland had also granted permission for the traditional Latin rite of the Mass to continue in his diocese after the Pope had prohibited it.

In the months leading up to his removal, Strickland openly criticized the Pope’s shift toward more progressive positions, particularly on social issues. Pope Francis, in turn, labeled Strickland and other conservative American bishops as “backward” and “reactionary” for their opposing views.

Despite the controversy and his removal from office, Strickland expressed no regrets, affirming that he would make the same choices again. He emphasized his commitment to upholding the truth and the teachings of the Church.

Since Strickland’s departure, Pope Francis has continued to implement more liberal policies, including approving the baptism and godparent roles for transgender individuals. The Vatican’s approval of priestly blessings for same-sex couples also caused significant debate within the Church.

Strickland has remained steadfast in his opposition to these changes, advocating for a united response among those who disagree with the Vatican’s evolving stance on these issues.
