In the latest episode of the “Defending Democracy” podcast aired on Friday, Hillary Clinton expressed her views on Donald Trump’s leadership style, suggesting parallels with authoritarian figures like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, as per the Daily Mail.
“Trump was just gaga over Putin because Putin does what Trump would like to do: Kill his opposition, imprison his opposition, drive journalists and others into exile, rule without any check or balance,” Clinton reportedly remarked.
She cautioned against the perils of Trump’s alleged authoritarian tendencies, urging voters to resist such inclinations.
Clinton, who faced defeat against Trump in the 2016 presidential election, extolled President Joe Biden’s attributes as “effective and compassionate,” despite his advanced age, contrasting him with Trump, whom she characterized as “old” and potentially autocratic.
The comments elicited a response from a Trump campaign spokesperson, who dismissed Clinton’s assertions as “delusional” and attributed them to “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” according to the Washington Examiner.
However, the public remains divided on concerns regarding age and fitness for office. A recent survey indicated that only 38 percent of likely voters believe Biden will complete another four-year term, raising speculations about Vice President Kamala Harris potentially assuming the presidency.
The age factor emerges as a significant issue in the forthcoming election, with Trump, aged 77, and Biden, aged 81, under scrutiny. While doubts linger about Biden’s stamina in office, more confidence is placed in Trump’s capacity to serve a full term. Nonetheless, both parties must devise succession plans amid uncertainties surrounding the candidates’ health and longevity.
Trump has seized upon concerns about Biden’s age, lambasting him as unfit for office. However, Trump himself has faced criticism for verbal gaffes, casting doubt on his own performance. Despite these challenges, Trump currently enjoys an edge in the electoral race.
