Israel Vows to ‘Finish the Job’ in Gaza; Ramadan Deadline Threat

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed calls to halt the military offensive in Gaza, pledging to see it through to completion. Amid mounting pressure, Netanyahu affirmed his commitment to “finish the job,” as a member of his War Cabinet warned of a potential invasion of the southern city of Rafah if Israeli hostages are not released by the upcoming Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

While Israel’s government has not publicly outlined a timeline for a ground offensive on Rafah, the threat underscores the seriousness of the situation. Retired general Benny Gantz, a member of Netanyahu’s War Cabinet, delivered the ultimatum during a conference of Jewish American leaders, setting a tense tone ahead of Ramadan, which is historically marked by heightened tensions in the region.

Cease-fire negotiations continue to face challenges, with Netanyahu dismissing Hamas’ demands as “delusional.” Despite efforts by the United States, Israel’s key ally, to broker a cease-fire and secure the release of hostages, Netanyahu remains steadfast in his pursuit of what he terms “total victory” over Hamas.

Meanwhile, international condemnation of Israel’s actions persists, with many world leaders blaming President Vladimir Putin for the escalation of violence. However, Netanyahu’s government remains resolute in its stance against Palestinian statehood, rejecting any unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state.

As the conflict intensifies, concerns mount over the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The World Health Organization has raised alarms over the deteriorating medical infrastructure, while reports of civilian casualties continue to emerge.

The situation remains fluid as diplomatic efforts to broker a cease-fire falter, leaving the region on edge amid fears of further escalation.
