Jailed Kremlin Critic Navalny Put in Solitary Confinement in Arctic Prison

Prominent Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny has been placed in solitary confinement for a period of 10 days in a prison situated above the Arctic Circle, as a result of what his spokesperson described as an “incorrect introduction” to a prison guard. Navalny, aged 47 and a former lawyer, gained prominence over a decade ago for satirizing President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle and making allegations of widespread corruption.

Navalny is currently incarcerated in a facility located approximately 60 kilometers (40 miles) north of the Arctic Circle. According to Kira Yarmysh, his spokesperson, this marks the 25th occasion Navalny has been placed in solitary confinement, and he has now spent a total of 283 days in such conditions.

Having been sentenced to remain in prison until the age of 74 on charges he asserts were fabricated to prevent his political involvement, Navalny revealed that he is compelled to listen to pro-Putin music at 5:00 AM daily, followed by the Russian national anthem.

Russian authorities portray Navalny as a Western-backed fraudulent extremist who seeks to disrupt political stability and sow chaos in the world’s largest country, an allegation he vehemently denies.
