Concerns about King Charles III’s health have escalated amid reports of his ongoing battle with cancer, prompting a review of his funeral plans, according to Page Six.
The monarch’s undisclosed type of cancer has raised alarm bells among his friends and palace insiders, with efforts underway to address the challenging health condition. Despite efforts to downplay the severity of his illness, sources close to the king have expressed concerns about his well-being.
“He is determined to beat it, and they are throwing everything at it. Everyone is staying optimistic, but he is really very unwell, more than they are letting on,” noted a friend of the monarch, as reported by Page Six.
Royal commentator Tina Brown has underscored the gravity of Charles’ health struggles, suggesting that his illness may accelerate the transition of leadership roles to Prince William and Kate Middleton.
In addition to the health concerns, the king’s funeral plans, known as “Operation Menai Bridge,” are reportedly under review. A document evaluating the successes and shortcomings of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022 is circulating, aimed at refining future royal funeral arrangements.
While such reviews are standard practice, the urgency of the process has been heightened by Charles’ health challenges.
“The plans have been dusted off and are actively being kept up to date… But the circulation of them has certainly focused minds,” remarked a former staffer familiar with the situation.
Buckingham Palace revealed in February that the 75-year-old king had cancer detected during surgery for a benign prostate enlargement. He is currently undergoing regular treatment and has been advised to limit public appearances. Despite this, Charles expressed gratitude for the well-wishes he received following the announcement of his diagnosis.
Charles recently made a public appearance at Easter services and attended Sunday services in commemoration of what would have been his mother’s 98th birthday. He assumed the throne following her death, with his coronation taking place last May.
