Napolitano: All Jurors in Trump Case Likely Seated by Friday

Former Judge Andrew Napolitano shared his insights on the progress of Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial during an interview on “National Report.” Napolitano expressed optimism about the pace of jury selection, predicting that all 18 jurors would be seated by Friday.

Expressing surprise at the speed of the process, Napolitano commended the judge and lawyers for their efficiency in selecting seven jurors already. He anticipated that the remaining 11 jurors would be sworn in soon, allowing for opening statements to commence as early as the following week.

The jurors selected so far represent a diverse range of professions, including an information technology worker, an English teacher, an oncology nurse, a sales professional, a software engineer, and two lawyers. However, the task of selecting suitable jurors is not yet complete, with additional individuals needed to round out the panel.

The trial holds significant implications for Trump, as it marks the first criminal case against a former U.S. president to reach trial. It comes amidst a heated political climate, with Trump positioning himself as a victim of what he perceives as a politically motivated justice system.

Napolitano emphasized the fairness of the jury selection process, highlighting New York’s approach, where lawyers are actively involved in questioning potential jurors. This method allows both the prosecution and defense to assess the jurors’ impartiality and suitability for the trial.

He stressed the importance of selecting jurors who can provide a fair and objective assessment of the case, free from preconceived notions or biases. In particular, Napolitano noted the significance of jurors having some familiarity with Trump and the government while maintaining an open-minded approach to the trial proceedings.
