Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia offered a cautionary note to Democrats attempting to prevent former President Donald Trump from appearing on the Republican primary ballot in Colorado and other states. The Colorado Supreme Court had recently declared Trump ineligible for the state’s 2024 GOP primary ballot, citing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which disqualifies individuals who engage in insurrection against the Constitution after taking an oath to uphold it. It’s worth noting that Trump has never been formally charged with such a crime.
In response to these developments, Democrat California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis called for Democrat Secretary of State Shirley Weber to explore legal avenues to remove Trump from the state’s GOP primary ballot. However, similar efforts in Minnesota and New Hampshire proved unsuccessful, and a decision is currently pending in the Michigan Supreme Court.
During her interview on “Eric Bolling The Balance,” Rep. Greene emphasized the importance of making sure Democrats adhere to the rules they themselves establish. She asserted, “Let’s be honest. If the Democrats want to start making these rules, well guess what? We can use the same exact rules.”
Rep. Greene cited the example of potentially removing Joe Biden from the ballot in red states and other regions, citing concerns over his border policies and their alleged impact on national security. Additionally, she suggested that Biden’s involvement in his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings with foreign countries, as well as allegations of selling political influence for favors, could be used as grounds for challenging his candidacy.
In essence, Rep. Greene’s message was that if Democrats employ certain rules and criteria to disqualify candidates, they should be prepared for those rules to be applied reciprocally. The ongoing legal battles surrounding Trump’s eligibility for primary ballots reflect the heightened political tensions and legal challenges in the lead-up to future elections.
