Rep. Greene to Newsmax: ‘Not Surprising’ Govt Tracks Phones

Upon hearing about a covert government initiative that enables federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to monitor an estimated trillion American phone records, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, expressed her lack of surprise to Newsmax.

According to a report by Wired, the surveillance program, originally known as Hemisphere and now called the Data Analytical Services (DAS), has enabled governmental authorities to delve deeply into phone records held by AT&T, often unbeknownst to the subjects of investigation.

The program reportedly commenced in 2009. It is said that funding for this program was halted by former President Barack Obama in 2013, but was reinstated during the tenure of former President Donald Trump, as per Wired. The funding was again ceased in 2021, but last year, President Joe Biden reignited efforts to fund the program.

In a conversation on “Eric Bolling The Balance,” Greene remarked, “It’s unfortunately not surprising, coming from the Biden administration, and it’s typical of the federal government. There’s been a longstanding trend of infringing on Americans’ rights and eroding civil liberties.”

Greene further commented, “Under the Biden administration, however, there’s been an escalation with the use of government power. I have been urging my fellow Republicans to confront the administration, particularly for its actions that affect conservatives across the country.”

She also highlighted what she perceives as the government’s focus on targeting conservatives, citing the treatment of defendants involved in the January 6 events, anti-abortion activists, parents, President Trump, and others.

Greene concluded by emphasizing the alarming nature of these developments.
