Report: DNC Helped Pay Biden’s Legal Fees

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) contributed to covering President Joe Biden’s legal expenses amid the special counsel’s investigation into his handling of classified documents, according to a report by Axios.

This report, based on details from two informed sources and an examination of campaign finance records, indicates that the DNC disbursed over $1.5 million for legal services provided to Biden during the inquiry.

Notably, these expenditures coincide with the Biden campaign’s recent critique of former President Donald Trump for utilizing campaign funds to cover his own legal fees.

According to DNC’s financial records, the committee made payments exceeding $1 million to Bob Bauers PLLC from July 2023 to February 2024. Bob Bauers is identified as Biden’s chief legal representative, and the funds were primarily allocated for the investigation’s legal management.

Furthermore, in July of the same year, the DNC significantly increased its regular payments to the law firm Hemenway & Barnes, boosting the amount from $15,000 to $100,000 monthly. Special counsel Robert Hur’s report named Jennifer Miller of Hemenway & Barnes as one of Biden’s attorneys, though the specifics of how much of this increase was directed towards Biden’s legal costs remain unspecified.

Ultimately, special counsel Hur decided not to press charges against Biden.

The DNC has been openly critical of Trump for his practice of using campaign donations to finance his legal battles.

In response to a recent fundraising event for Trump, a Biden deputy campaign manager labeled it as “a gathering of billionaires strategizing on how to cover his legal expenses.”

DNC spokesperson Alex Floyd commented to Axios, stating, “There is no comparison — the DNC does not use any grassroots donors’ money for legal bills — unlike Donald Trump, who actively seeks contributions for his legal costs and drains every accessible account as if it were his savings.”

Trump has consistently refuted any misconduct and has condemned the extensive series of felony charges and lawsuits as biased efforts to thwart his presidential campaign.
