Russian Oil Depot Catches Fire

A fire erupted at an oil storage facility in the town of Klintsy in Russia’s Bryansk region after a Ukrainian drone was brought down by the military, according to Alexander Bogomaz, the regional governor.

Initial reports suggest that there have been no injuries in the incident, and firefighting teams are actively working to extinguish the blaze.

Bogomaz explained that the defense ministry used radio-electronic means to take down an airplane-style drone, and when the aerial target was destroyed, its munitions fell on the Klintsy oil depot’s premises. Additionally, air defense units shot down two more Ukrainian drones in other parts of Bryansk.

Unverified videos shared on social media depict a fire burning in the dark near the oil depot, seemingly affecting storage tanks.

TASS state news agency reported that the fire covered an area of approximately 1,000 square meters. Emergency services responded to the scene, with a specialized firefighting train deployed.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had intercepted and destroyed a Ukrainian drone in the skies over the Bryansk region, which shares a border with Ukraine.

Incidents involving drones from Ukraine targeting the region have been reported by local authorities in the past.

A Russian-appointed official claimed the previous day that Ukraine had attempted, unsuccessfully, to target a Russian Baltic Sea oil terminal using a drone, marking a rare attempt to strike a facility in St. Petersburg.

According to a Ukrainian government minister quoted by Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Ukraine had used a domestically produced drone to target locations in St. Petersburg with a flight distance of 1,250 km (775 miles).

It’s important to note that Reuters could not independently verify these statements.
