Trump: Biden Getting ‘Free Pass’ on Classified Docs

Former President Donald Trump criticized the contrasting treatment he and President Joe Biden received in their respective cases involving classified documents, asserting that while Biden received a “free pass” from his Department of Justice (DOJ), he continues to face legal battles.

Trump voiced his grievances in a post on Truth Social Tuesday morning, ahead of a significant day in Congress featuring a hearing with former special counsel Robert Hur before the House Judiciary Committee. The hearing is focused on Hur’s decision not to pursue charges against Biden for mishandling classified documents, while Trump faces his own federal trial in Florida related to classified documents.

In his post, Trump highlighted disparities in the handling of classified documents, emphasizing Biden’s lack of supervision and security compared to the strict requirements under the Presidential Records Act that apply to him. Trump alleged that Biden’s documents were scattered in various locations, including Chinatown, and received minimal scrutiny. In contrast, Trump stated that his documents were securely handled by the General Services Administration (GSA) and primarily contained personal items.

Hur’s upcoming testimony is expected to delve into his extensive report and the transcript of interviews with Biden, which was released to House Republicans following a subpoena. In his opening statement, Hur reiterated his decision not to prosecute Biden, citing insufficient evidence to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He also expressed doubts about the likelihood of a jury convicting Biden, given his advanced age and purported memory issues.

During Biden’s deposition with Hur and his team, NPR reported that Biden frequently responded with variations of “I don’t know” or “I don’t recall” over 100 times, further complicating the case.

Although Hur recently left the Justice Department, he prepared for Tuesday’s hearing with support from the Office of Legislative Affairs at the DOJ, according to CNN’s report on the matter.
