Trump: Border Bill ‘Can’t Be Signed’

Former President Donald Trump strongly cautioned against lawmakers signing the Senate’s border security bill, deeming it “foolish” and a “trap.”

Trump expressed his disbelief at Senate Republicans who might be considering supporting the $118 billion border security bill introduced on Sunday.

Trump contended that signing the bill would likely spell the end of their political careers, characterizing it as a Democratic trap that would be detrimental for Republicans. He emphasized that the bill cannot and should not be signed.

Furthermore, Trump criticized the proposed legislation for allocating massive amounts of money that, in his view, would not effectively address the border crisis. He described it as one of the most ill-conceived bills he had ever encountered, highlighting the dire state of the border.

Trump asserted that there is no need for a bill to address the border situation, emphasizing that he had overseen the safest border in the history of the United States without the need for such legislation. He credited his administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy as a key element in preventing a migrant crisis.

He recounted how he had negotiated with Mexico to secure their cooperation, resulting in Mexico deploying 28,000 troops and agreeing to the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which is notably absent from the Senate’s proposed bill. Trump concluded by contrasting the current state of the border with the success of his administration’s border policies.
