Trump Moves to Reshape RNC Swiftly, More Changes Planned

The Republican National Committee (RNC) is undergoing significant changes with the appointment of two new leaders endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Last Friday, Michael Whatley, the North Carolina Republican Party chair and RNC’s general counsel, assumed the position of RNC chair, while Lara Trump, Trump’s daughter-in-law, was appointed co-chair.

The RNC, now under their direction, is experiencing a comprehensive staff overhaul. Key appointments include Chris LaCivita, a former Trump campaign senior advisor, taking charge of the RNC’s day-to-day activities. Sean Cairncross has been named the RNC’s chief operating officer, while GOP lawyer Charlie Spies steps in as chief counsel. Christina Bobb, previously with One America News, is appointed senior counsel for election integrity, and Bill McGinley, a Trump administration alumnus, will serve as the external counsel for election integrity.

In a letter to RNC members, Whatley outlined the rationale for these changes and plans, emphasizing the need to engage with traditionally overlooked voter demographics and enhance Republican voter turnout. He also highlighted the new leadership’s commitment to bolstering election integrity initiatives. Furthermore, Whatley communicated to the staff a strategic shift toward organizing communities not typically associated with the Republican base.
