Trump Targets DA and Judge, Reviving His ‘Stop the Steal’ Slogan

Former President Donald Trump revisited his rallying cry of “Stop the Steal” on Tuesday, reviving a slogan that gained traction among his supporters during the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election.

Trump and his followers organized several “Stop the Steal” events in the wake of the 2020 election, alleging widespread voter fraud as the reason for his loss. One notable rally took place on January 6, 2021, in Washington, D.C., before the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump reignited his accusations against Democrat Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, suggesting that Biden administration officials pressured Bragg to prosecute a case against him. This case pertains to allegations that Trump falsified business records to conceal a hush-money payment made by his former attorney, Michael Cohen, to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Trump pointed to Bragg’s appointment of Matthew Colangelo, a former senior official in the Biden Department of Justice, as an assistant district attorney. Colangelo’s involvement in Trump-related legal matters, including assisting New York Attorney General Letitia James in a civil fraud trial against Trump, has raised concerns among Trump’s camp. Trump is currently appealing a hefty $464.4 million penalty resulting from James’ lawsuit.

Furthermore, Trump reiterated his demand for Judge Juan Merchan to recuse himself from the hush-money case, citing perceived Democratic affiliations shared by both Bragg and Merchan.

“D.A. Bragg fought everyone about trying this ‘no crime’ case, but Crooked Joe Biden’s ‘Thugs’ pushed him to go forward, and pushed him hard,” Trump wrote. “They wanted him to go after ME, Crooked’s Political Opponent. He just didn’t want to do it. They ended up sending Matthew Colangelo, Merrick Garland’s ‘right hand,’ after a stop at the Corrupt and Racist New York State A.G. Letecia [sic] ‘Peekaboo’ James’ Office, to directly oversee the D.A., perhaps to make sure that Bragg followed their illegal orders and commands.

“He eventually agreed to do the ‘case’ that he never wanted to do. [Mark] Pomerantz and Cohen were ‘death.’ Now their hope is that Judge Juan Merchan, who should be recused, will pull them through. STOP THE STEAL!”

Pomerantz, who previously served under Bragg, resigned from his position when Bragg opted not to pursue potential business fraud charges against Trump, instead deferring to James. Pomerantz has since authored a book titled “People vs. Donald Trump,” detailing his experiences. Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in the case brought forth by James, which alleges that he inflated his assets to secure favorable loans.
