Trump to Attend Federal Appeals Arguments on Presidential Immunity

Former President Donald Trump announced his plans to attend a crucial appeals court hearing in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. This hearing will address the extent of presidential immunity, a topic Trump has frequently asserted in his defense.

Trump, in his social media statement, emphasized his belief in his entitlement to immunity as the former President and Commander in Chief of the United States. He is currently facing allegations from prosecutors who accuse him of attempting to obstruct Congress and defraud the U.S. government by trying to overturn the 2020 election results, which declared Joe Biden the winner.

Trump’s legal stance is that as a former president, he should not be subjected to criminal charges for actions that were part of his official duties. This argument, however, was not accepted by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on December 1, leading to Trump’s appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. As a result of this appeal, Trump’s trial, initially scheduled for March, has been put on hold.

In a significant development last month, the U.S. Supreme Court chose not to make an immediate ruling on Trump’s claim regarding his prosecution immunity. Instead, it allowed the lower court to proceed with reviewing the issue.

In his full statement, Trump expressed his determination to attend the Federal Appeals Court Arguments, reiterating his belief in his right to immunity. He argued that his actions were in pursuit of exposing voter fraud and fulfilling his responsibilities as President. Trump also suggested that if he were denied immunity, then President Joe Biden should also not be granted immunity, citing issues such as the situation at the border and the withdrawal from Afghanistan, along with allegations of financial gains from foreign entities.

Trump further stated, “As President, I was protecting our country, and doing a great job of doing so. The least I am entitled to is Presidential Immunity on Fake Biden Indictments!” This statement reflects Trump’s perspective on the political and legal challenges he is facing, as he prepares to confront these issues in court.
