Biden to Attend Return of Troops Killed in Jordan

President Joe Biden will be personally attending the return of the remains of three U.S. service members killed in a drone attack in Jordan, according to White House spokesman John Kirby. The decision came after President Biden met with the family members of the fallen soldiers, during which he expressed pride in their service, conveyed condolences for their loss, and assured them of continued support as they cope with their tragic loss.

The service members who lost their lives in the attack were identified as Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Ga.; Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Ga.; and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Ga. They died in Jordan when an unmanned aerial system impacted their container housing units.

The drone attack, believed to be carried out by Iran-backed militants, resulted in the deaths of the three service members and left at least 34 others wounded.

This decision to attend the solemn event demonstrates President Biden’s commitment to honoring and respecting the service and sacrifice of these fallen heroes, while also providing support to their grieving families. It follows earlier uncertainty when Kirby initially indicated that he had no information regarding the president’s schedule for attending the event.
