Poll: Support Strong for Netanyahu in Israel

Support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud Party has risen notably since the Hamas attacks on October 7, which were the most lethal against Jews since the Holocaust, according to a new survey published by the Jerusalem Post and conducted by Lazar Research.

The poll shows that 42% of those surveyed prefer Benny Gantz, the emergency government minister and leader of the National Unity Party, for prime minister, while 37% back Netanyahu. If elections were held today, Likud is projected to secure 21 seats, up from 16 earlier in the conflict, the survey suggests. Meanwhile, the National Unity Party would secure 31 seats, Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid would receive 13, and Avigdor Liberman’s Israel Beytenu would get 12.

This survey was carried out by Panel4All with 500 participants on April 17-18 amidst rising regional tensions. On the morning of the survey’s completion, Iran activated air defenses at a major airbase and a nuclear site near Isfahan in response to drones, which was seen as a retaliation by Israel for Iran’s unprecedented drone-and-missile attack on Israel the previous week.
