Trump’s Name to Stay on Colorado Ballot Pending Appeal

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold has stated that Donald Trump’s name will stay on the Colorado GOP primary ballot unless the U.S. Supreme Court either refuses to hear the case or upholds the recent ruling of the Colorado Supreme Court.

The state’s Republican Party made a formal request to the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday, urging it to review Trump’s disqualification based on the 14th Amendment. This appeal follows a decision earlier this month by the Colorado Supreme Court, which ruled that the former president was ineligible to be on the ballot.

The petition from the Colorado Republican Party, known as a writ of certiorari, emphasizes the unprecedented nature of this situation. It argues that this is the first instance in U.S. history where a former President has been barred from a ballot, a political party has been restricted from nominating its chosen presidential candidate, and voters have been deprived of the chance to elect their leader through the electoral process.

While the Supreme Court has no specific deadline to decide whether to review the case, Griswold has appealed to the justices for prompt action. In a post on X, previously known as Twitter, Griswold asserted, “Donald Trump engaged in insurrection and was disqualified under the Constitution from the Colorado Ballot.”

She commended the Colorado Supreme Court’s judgment and highlighted the importance of a swift decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, particularly given the impending presidential primary election.
