In the latest poll conducted by the Harvard Center for American Political Studies, concerns about President Joe Biden’s age and mental fitness continue to dominate public sentiment, with a significant majority expressing doubts about his ability to serve effectively. Despite these concerns, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump maintains a lead over Biden in a full field of candidates.
According to the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll conducted on March 20-21, Trump holds a 5-point lead over Biden in the full field, with Trump garnering 41% of the support compared to Biden’s 36%. The inclusion of third-party challengers further widens Trump’s lead, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. securing 14% of the vote.
In a head-to-head matchup between Trump and Biden, Trump maintains a narrower lead of 3 points, with 47% of respondents favoring Trump compared to 44% for Biden. However, when RFK Jr. is added to the mix, Trump’s lead is reduced to 4 points.
Biden’s declining numbers in the poll reflect widespread doubts about his age and mental acuity. A significant majority of respondents, 63%, believe Biden is too old to be president, while 57% consider him mentally unfit to serve. Additionally, nearly half of the respondents, 48%, perceive Biden’s performance as deteriorating over time.
The poll also highlights concerns about Biden’s integrity and involvement in his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings. A majority of respondents, 56%, believe Biden lied about his lack of involvement in his son’s business affairs. Moreover, 71% of respondents believe Biden may have committed an impeachable offense if he collaborated with his son to secure business deals with foreign entities like China, Russia, and Ukraine.
The findings of the Harvard CAPS poll underscore the significant challenges facing the Biden administration and the widespread skepticism surrounding his leadership. The poll was conducted among 2,111 registered voters and did not provide a margin of error.
